OUR STORY
On December 11, 2016, Pinson Baptist Church celebrated 170 years of being a church for God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Yes, 170 years of existence; of being a beacon of light for the community. You can view a series of photos set to music on the "170-Anniversary Video" page under Photos & Vids in the above menu.
It hasn't always been easy. The original church building was destroyed in a fire in 1915. The church was again destroyed in the tornado that wiped out Pinson back in 1923. You can wipe out a building, but you can't wipe out a body of people with a mindset of doing God's will. The church was rebuilt, and continues to this day.
The official record papers had been destroyed, and although there has been some argument for the year 1869, when it settled into its present location on Church Street in Pinson, there are church association minutes listing the year of 1846. In 1946, Pinson Baptist Church celebrated it's 100th anniversary, and a 150th anniversary was celebrated in 1996. So, in keeping with that tradition, Pinson Baptist Church today recognizes 1846 as the year of it's founding.
The church forerunner of Pinson Baptist Church-Turkey Springs was in Turkey Springs, which was located out near the old Wilson School House community. An association record shows a Pinson Baptist Church meeting at Turkey Springs in 1859. It was during this time that we had the same pastor serving both Turkey Springs and Pinson Baptist Church! After the core of the Pinson community moved from the top of Pinson Hill in 1866 to Pinson today, the current location became the permanent residence for Pinson Baptist Church in 1869.
The church was destroyed by a devastating fire in 1915. but was rebuilt. It was destroyed again by the tornado that wiped out Pinson about 7 PM, March 11, 1923. Many residences were destroyed. Two school buildings were demolished. The Pinson Methodist Church collapsed. The Pinson Baptist church was but a "pile of splinters." The following Sunday, services were led by Dr. R.E. Guy in a vacant store building. The people of Pinson rallied to the cause and rebuilt Pinson Baptist Church. Church services continued under James L. Muskelly (1924), and Bro. Johnny Kloss (1927). The new church building was dedicated the second Sunday in August, 1928.
Between 1973-1980, the church was completely remodeled, bricked, and an educational building was added. Through the years, there have been some financial concerns, but we know that God provides for our needs. We have prayed, taken giant leaps of faith, and through everything, God has answered our prayers. We give praise and thanks to God for his many blessings on Pinson Baptist Church. With God's grace, we look forward to serving the Pinson community for many years to come!
Our pastor is Bro. Dylan McMinn, from Lexington. He has a lovely wife, Hannah McMinn. You can meet them every Sunday, morning. We sincerely invite you to come visit us and join our loving, caring family in the worship of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. God bless!
