Every year, the American Cancer Society sponsors a "Relay For Life" event across the country to raise awareness of cancer, the prevention and medical treatment of cancer, exploring new possibilities in treatments, and celebrating LIFE with millions of cancer survivors, who attend the events every year. In the Madison County area, the main event is held at the Jackson Fairgrounds Park, with satellite support events held all over the county. Funds raised go to the American Cancer Society in their unceasing fight against this deadly disease. Pinson Baptist Church salutes the American Cancer Society and all cancer survivors, and is a proud supporter in the Relay For Life annual event.
One of these satellite fundraiser events, a Womanless Beauty Pageant, was sponsored by Pinson Baptist Church and Madison County Fire Dept. #13 on Saturday, March 24, 2012, at South Elementary School. A Womanless Beauty Pageant is a tongue-in-cheek satire of the traditional beauty pageants, where men are substituted into the roles of the female contestants. Some contests across the country may try to get close to the beauty pageant image, while others don't even try. The result is an unscripted, outrageous, and hilarious spectacle of parody.
This year, our pageant was won by one of our brave firefighters. They don't call them "brave" for nothing! Congratulations and a special thanks to everybody who participated in this fundraiser, in front or behind the scenes, and especially to the contestants, who swallowed their manly pride to bring some laughs to all attending. The video below is a compilation of photos taken at the event, set to music, and we hope you take this with the levity in which it was intended.
